Do you constantly feel tired? Are you run down all of the time? Do you suffer from colds and flus regularly? It might be your immune system that’s the problem.
Let’s take a look at some of the factors that can impact your immune health and how chiropractic care can help boost your immune system naturally.
Diet
There are a number of factors that can impact immune health. A poor diet is certainly one of the main contributors. A diet high in refined sugar, processed food, alcohol, preservatives and additives will affect the normal function of your gut. Over 70% of your immune cells are in the gut, so poor gut health will result in reduced immune function.
Stress
Stress is another major contributor to reduced immunity. Stress causes the release of your stress hormone cortisol, which in turn directly suppresses the function of your immune system. It also tends to be when we crave carbohydrates and processed food, which further reduce immune function.
Sleep
A lack of sleep can impact immunity because we heal and grow at night when we sleep. If you don’t get a good nights sleep, your body will not repair itself properly from the day, which in turn causes the body to slowly break down, including the immune system.

Medications can also affect immune function, even though they may be designed to improve it. Long-term medication use affects the function of the liver, which reduces its ability to break down vitamin D and produce energy, resulting in lowered immunity.

Vitamin D is crucial to immune function, so a lack of sunlight can result in vitamin D deficiency. This is a common problem in countries that are further from the equator and experience shorter days and longer winters. However, even in Singapore, most people spend the majority of their day indoors rather than outside due to the heat, but this reduces your exposure to sunlight.
