Applied Kinesiology
Applied Kinesiology is a unique health care system because it recognises that appropriate body mechanics, biochemistry and emotional health are fundamental to optimal health.
Your nervous system monitors and coordinates all your body interactions. On that basis, the Applied Kinesiology practitioner uses muscle testing to assess your nervous system function and find a solution to your health concerns.
Applied Kinesiology practitioners are holistic primary health care professionals highly skilled in the assessment and application of structural correction, nutrition, cranio-sacral therapy, meridian therapy, visceral (organ) therapy, immune system function, Retained Neonatal Reflexes and many other health aspects.
What is Applied Kinesiology?
Applied Kinesiology practitioners understand that muscle weakness is a major expression of neuromuscular dysfunction. Structural balance is maintained by opposing muscles. If a muscle is weaker than the one opposing it, the opposing muscle becomes tight and your skeletal structures will be out of balance. A weak muscle may cause pain and spasm in the opposing muscle.
Research shows that muscles respond with weakness in a predictable way to pain, inflammation and/or injury. This research has shown that dysfunction of the muscle system is the most common clinical finding causing pain, and supports my clinical experience that pain makes muscles less powerful and difficult to use.
There is no other clinical method available for testing the loss of specific muscle strength and function as reliable and precise as the Applied Kinesiology manual muscle test. The assessment of the functional status of the patient is the major addition that Applied Kinesiology offers to traditional medical care.
How does Applied Kinesiology work?
Applied Kinesiology does not replace standard chiropractic examinations. It is used in conjunction with a comprehensive patient history, physical examination and appropriate laboratory testing to diagnose and treat a particular health condition. It allows me to gather further information specific to your presenting condition so that I can determine the primary cause of your health concern.
Applied Kinesiology is used to evaluate the function of your nervous system through the manual muscle test. I am able to examine the structural, biochemical and emotional aspects of your health to determine the most appropriate treatment to restore your health as quickly as possible.
It helps me to understand functional symptomatic complexes when standard diagnostic and laboratory tests show no cause for your symptoms. It also allows me to identify neuromuscular dysfunction prior to the onset of symptoms so that I can prevent or delay the onset of further pathologic processes.
What does my treatment involve?
I am the only Australian chiropractor in Singapore who is certified in Applied Kinesiology. I am also a member of the International College of Applied Kinesiology (ICAK).
I am one of the most sought-after chiropractors in Singapore for my vast knowledge and expertise in managing many complex conditions. My unique approach to health has helped thousands of people achieve results far beyond their expectations.
During your initial consultation, I will perform a comprehensive history and thorough physical examination. I will also refer you for diagnostic imaging or laboratory testing if required. I will explain in detail what your presenting condition is and how I am going to help restore your health.
Treatment may involve a variety of different corrections, including chiropractic adjustments, soft tissue therapy, TMJ corrections, cranio-sacral therapy, meridian therapy, visceral (organ) therapy and emotional corrections. I may also prescribe stretching and strengthening exercises, and I may give you dietary and nutritional advice.
I will look at exactly what your body needs at that particular point in time, and I will work with you to make the necessary changes. This approach allows me to not only get results quickly, but also allows you to be the healthiest version of yourself.
What are Retained Neonatal Reflexes?
Neonatal reflexes are a set of pre-programmed responses and behaviours designed to help us survive in the early stages of life. These reflexes appear in utero and help us develop our muscular tone, balance, hand-eye coordination and basic movement patterns.
Within 12-18 months, neonatal reflexes normally integrate into higher brain centres and we develop our postural reflexes that remain with us for the rest of our lives. If these reflexes don’t integrate correctly, they may interfere with behaviour, learning, balance, normal body movement, vision, hormonal function, fine motor control and more.
Retained neonatal reflexes may result from physical, chemical and/or emotional trauma from conception to the early months of life. Caesarean section or intervention during the birth process appears to be amongst the most common causes for these reflexes not integrating correctly.
The Retained Neonatal Reflexes technique uses a number of very precise structural corrections, including cranio-sacral therapy, to assist with the integration of retained neonatal reflexes. The technique is primarily used on children, particularly those with learning or behavioural difficulties or delays. The improvements that I have seen in children throughout my career using this technique have been simply mind-blowing.
